Anamnesis

Anonymous**, diagnosed at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (复旦大学附属肿瘤医院) on 2021-02-20: lung cancer with multiple metastases (brain, pleura, bone), cT2bN3M1c, stage IVB. First perinatal NK cell infusion on 2021-06-11. At the time of first infusion: low mood, dull and lethargic gaze, soft voice, slow speech, persistent fatigue, pessimism, sparse gray hair, dull inelastic skin, small and irregular meals, poor sleep, emaciation.

Treatment plan

During intervals between chemo- and radiotherapy: perinatal NK cells 2U per session, 13 infusions total; cumulative dose 26 billion cells.

SchemaPerinatal NK 2U ×13 (260 billion cells total)
Therapy
NK perinatal
Delivery route
Intravenous (IV)

Outcome

Follow-up at Shangrao Fifth People's Hospital (上饶市第五人民医院) on 2023-07-17:

  1. After comprehensive treatment of left upper lung cancer with brain metastases — no active lesions in primary site or brain.
  2. Thickening of gastric antrum wall with elevated FDG uptake; pathology: moderate chronic non-atrophic gastritis with prominent lymphoid hyperplasia, activity (++), some glands with reactive atypia — improved after treatment.
  3. Both lungs: a few scattered old lesions.

Over the past two years, the patient's condition gradually improved: voice loud and confident, speech fluent, hair turned dark and shiny, skin pink and lustrous, diet and sleep normal, leads normal life with outdoor activities.

Imaging comparison (before / after)

  • 2021/02/20 — pre-cell therapy: PET-CT, Department of Nuclear Medicine, Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (Reporting physician: Yang Ziyi / 杨梓怡; Validator: Zhang Yingjian / 章英剑)
  • 2023/07/17 — post-cell therapy: PET-CT, Shangrao Fifth People's Hospital (Exam ID: PET82745)

PET-CT findings:

  1. After comprehensive treatment of left upper lung cancer with brain metastases — no active lesions in primary site or brain; contrast MRI recommended for further evaluation.
  2. Thickening of gastric antrum wall with elevated FDG uptake; gastroscopy follow-up recommended.
  3. Both lungs: a few scattered old lesions.
  4. Cyst in right lobe of liver.
  5. Degenerative changes in spine.

Physician conclusion

NK cells produce varying degrees of improvement in tumor morphology and volume in most patients. They are particularly effective in alleviating side effects of radio- and chemotherapy. Patient quality of life is significantly improved.
